Flag Installation and Maintenance

How will the flag be installed on my property?

A dedicated Rotary Club member will select the perfect spot for your flag in your chosen area. If you have a preference, let us know at checkout notes section or a follow up email at centraliarotaryflags@gmail.com. Otherwise, we’ll attempt to find the best location.

Rotary members will install a self-mounted flag in your yard, in a prominent location. The flag poles have 5 prongs on the bottom that install easily in grass or dirt. If you are not sure if you have an appropriate location for installation, we will be happy to discuss options with you.

What if my property is damaged during installation?

If you have sprinklers or underground piping, please inform us before installation. Your awareness of your underground piping can help us avoid any mishaps. In the rare event of damage, we’ll promptly arrange for repairs to be made.

Can I have multiple flags?

We have a limited quantity of 100 available flags, however multiple flags can be reserved.

What do we do if we move in the middle of the membership period?

If you’re relocating within Centralia, we’ll happily arrange to install the flag at your new residence. In the event that you move outside our service area, kindly inform us to cancel your membership at centraliarotaryflags@gmail.com. Although there’s no refund for cancellations, we’ll continue to place a flag for the new owners, with their permission, for the remainder of the season.

What if my flag has been stolen or damaged?

If your flag has been stolen or damaged, please reach out to us at centraliarotaryflags@gmail.com and we will take full responsibility for replacing or repairing it promptly.

Usage and Care

Can I fly my flag 24 hours a day?

While it’s customary to display the flag from sunrise to sunset, as endorsed by organizations like the American Legion and other veteran groups, we respect individual preferences. If you opt to follow this protocol, we kindly ask that you retire the flag each evening.  The flag can be removed by its hook system, or the top part of the poll unscrewed. Please do not pull the stand out of the ground. If the flag is left out overnight, please ensure the flag is properly illuminated for a respectful display.

Is it okay to leave the flag out during the rain

Yes, after the holiday, when Centralia Rotarians retrieve the flags, they take care to dry them before storage. While rain poses no harm to the flag, showing it care and attention will help extend its lifespan.

Are there any policies we should abide by?

Yes, there are important policies to uphold, particularly regarding flag etiquette. It is essential to ensure proper illumination of the flag, especially after sunset, as outlined by the United States American Legion. ‘Proper illumination’ ensures the flag remains recognizable even in darkness. To support this practice, Centralia Rotary recommends bringing the flag indoors each evening and reinstalling it during daylight hours. Alternatively, investing in a solar-powered flag display light, available at local hardware stores or online, is another effective solution. Thank you for your cooperation in honoring the dignity of our nation’s flag.
